Originally published in 1933 as a piano composition. According to Wikipedia, the following year Paul Whiteman had it scored for his big band and its popularity saw Mitchell Parish add lyric in 1938. It tells of a recurring dream of a lover who returns during the night in lingering dreams of reunion.
