Composed in August (By Robert Burns)
I often refer to this song as Westlin Winds. Google mentions the tune - 'I had a horse, I ha nae mair' but I am not sure this is the one I use. I have been singing this so long and I can't remember when I learned it or where I heard it first. I just love singing this and it conjures up so many beautiful pictures and emotions for me. Several times I have sung it at the weddings, engagements and anniversaries of friends. (And I often temporarily alter the woman's name to suit the occasion). I believe that Burns changed the name in this song from Jeannie to Peggy so I guess it's all part of the tradition.
